We witnessed some fantastic tennis in Paris yesterday. Today, the men's quarterfinals continue, and we're especially looking forward to a thrilling evening showdown between Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic.
Yesterday's Standout Performance
Yesterday's standout performance came from none other than Carlos Alcaraz, who was in complete harmony on court, steamrolling world No. 12 Tommy Paul. The first two sets were among the most intense we have ever seen. It's worth remembering that Paul is one of the best-conditioned players on the tour - yet he simply couldn't keep up with Alcaraz's relentless pace.
Today's Quarterfinal Matches
First up today is Jannik Sinner against Alexander Bublik, followed by the evening showdown between Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic. The Serbian legend is chasing a record-extending 25th Grand Slam title and has been looking sharper with each passing round. Zverev has never beaten Djokovic in a completed Grand Slam match and Djokovic also leads their head-to-head 8–5. Still, Zverev remains confident and believes he has a good shot this time around.
Djokovic's Season and Form
Djokovic has had a slower start to the 2025 season than expected, prompting speculation that age may finally be catching up with him. I think the 38-year-old was seriously underestimated coming into Roland Garros, with odds as high as 20-to-1 at some bookmakers. He's had a favorable draw and had the kind of buildup he needed to reach tonight's quarterfinal. Mentally, he remains the toughest player on tour, no doubt about that.
Zverev's Roland Garros History
Roland Garros has been Zverev's most consistent Slam. In 2022, he played one of the best clay-court matches of his career and came very close to defeating Rafael Nadal in a fantastic battle, before an ankle injury forced him to retire. A long rehab followed. Still, Zverev made it back, reaching the semis in 2023 and the final last year. Novak Djokovic has won the French Open three times, last time in 2023.
The Betting Odds
The odds are currently dead even for tonight's clash. It remains to be seen whether any bookmakers will dare to tip the scales one way or another as match time approaches.
We're in for a spectacular day of tennis in Paris!
