Series Recap: Back to Even
After a narrow home loss in Game 1, Oklahoma bounced back in Game 2 at Paycom Center with a 123–107 win. Under pressure, the Thunder managed to regain momentum in the series, which is now tied 1-1 in a best-of-seven battle.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Steps Up
Canadian super-guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was very impressive in Game 2 and was a major key to this win. Named this season's MVP, Gilgeous-Alexander delivered 34 points and 8 assists. Still, it was a true team effort this time, with several players stepping up under pressure. Notably, his 34 points came from just 21 shots. In Game 1, he scored 30 points - but that time from 30 shots. That's a big difference and a major reason why his teammates had more room to contribute.
Not the Blowout It Seemed
It may feel like order has been restored now that the heavy favorites have evened the series at 1-1. Many "experts" expected them to dominate Game 2 after Indiana stole the opener. The final score tells one story, but I have to say - I was truly impressed by Indiana's performance. This was far from a blowout. Looking at the first and second quarters, the game was still neck and neck and It wasn't until the third quarter that they really took control of the game. A bit worrying for Oklahoma.
Indiana's Home Court Advantage
I have a feeling Indiana will be a tough challenge now that they have two games at home. They're disciplined, resilient, and built around heart and grit. What a fantastic Finals we already have on our hands.
Game 3 Odds and Outlook
Most oddsmakers still have Oklahoma as clear favorites in Game 3, with up to a 70% chance of winning. The big question is: can the favorites deliver on the road and can multiple players step up again and produce points when they're not feeding off the home crowd?
High drama awaits. For us sports fans, this is going to be a magical night.
